NEW: "Bugs and Bugsicles" by Amy S. Hansen

Print PDF

Science writer Amy S. Hansen will be sharing her new book Bugs and Bugsicles: Insects in Winter (Boyds Mills Press, 2010) at 2:00pm on February 21 at Aladdin’s Lamp Children’s Bookstore in Arlington (2499 N. Harrison St., Suite 10). On March 13, she will be at Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, MD, to help celebrate the 106th birthday of the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Hansen has also written Touch the Earth, a tactile book about the biomes of the earth. This NASA-funded book is designed for middle-school students who are blind or visually impaired. The continent maps have different textures, so students can “feel” how big the Sahara is compared to the rest of Africa. The students can also listen to recordings about the biomes by using the accompanying DVD. The DVD has pictures of the biomes, so the book can also be used by kids who learn better by listening.
