My name is Marilyn Courtot. I am the editor and founder of Children's Literature, a business that helps teachers, librarians, childcare providers, and parents make appropriate literary choices for children. I am delighted to be a member of the Guild in the Children's Literature Specialist category.
In 1999, Children's Literature established a sister business-the CLCD Company, LLC. Our goal is to establish a new, definitive and technically sophisticated resource for people interested in children's literature. To that end the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) is now available to subscribers. The database consists of 700,000 catalog records in MARC format and 100,000 reviews of children's books.
We have recently added Awards and Prizes to the database--over 160,000 entries of national, state and international awards, children's and young adult choice awards, sixty best books lists, and all state reading lists.
The reviews come from Children's Literature, ALAN (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of the National Council of Teachers of English), African Access, Appraisal, Booklist, The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, CCBC Choices, Children's Literature, Children's Literature Association Quarterly, The Five Owls, The Horn Book Magazine (audio only), KIRKUS Reviews, KLIATT, Kobrin Letter, The Lorgnette, Media and Methods, Parent Council, Parent's Guide, Resource Links, Science Books and Films, Tips & Titles and VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates). All are clearly identified as to source and are full text searchable. Each month new reviews are added to the database.
Approximately 1500 new reviews are added monthly along with 1500 new catalog records.
"In this era of limited budgets and limited time with students, but a plethora of books, it is really important to hone in on the very best and to know which will appeal and also be ones that children can relate to and understand."

Our web site, www.childrenslit.com, debuted in May of 1997. It is tailored to meet the needs of children's literature professionals. In addition to reviews from prior years' newsletters, there are author and illustrator interviews, teaching guides, multimedia reviews, annotated lists of the Annual Children's Literature Choice Award, and links to thousands of related sites.
Children's Literature helps school media specialists, reading programs, museums and others interested in children's literature with collection development. Our knowledge of multicultural books has assisted schools, museums, and after-school reading programs nationally and internationally.
