Mrs. Ramsey grew up in a big family in Connecticut, and her mom was a famous local artist. To keep her six children out of her hair while she painted, she gave them art supplies. So from a very early age, Ms. Ramsey scribbled, dripped and drew her way through life. She painted portraits, cars and signs; rich people's lovely homes, their cats, dogs and horses, even a monkey named Mr. Phew. She got pretty good at drawing just about anything except a decent paycheck. Then she discovered the world of illustration! She was determined to make a living, so she found an Artist's Agent to take her on, and her career was launched.

She filled lots of textbooks with bright children laughing, jumping, playing, and having thought bubbles. She drew kids of every shape, size, color and national origin. She illustrated books about large dogs and local watermen, dinosaurs and Santa Claus, science and science fiction; books for young readers and books for bored teenagers. All the art skills she learned at an early age come in handy now when a new project comes in and requires a special artistic solution.

Ms. Ramsey also writes some of her own stories, and those are her favorite books of all. She likes to try new techniques, too, and lately her pictures are becoming more wacky, sort of like Ms. Ramsey herself. Just ask Mr. Ramsey!

The Ramsey family lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where they have raised two daughters, Jessie, a sculptor, and Rosie, a critic. Mr. Ramsey is a very patient man who likes to cook and windsurf (not at the same time) He owns Deep Landing Workshop, and manufactures lighting fixtures.
The Ramseys have a flock of all different kinds of chickens, her favorite art subject, and a big white dog named Abby Normal, who can read Ms. Ramsey's mind whenever it's bath time. Maybe there's a story there....

Ms. Ramsey is currently working on a book for Simon and Schuster called A Gardener's Notebook, due out in 2003, and another book that she wrote for Platypus Publishers, called A Nest is Best, due out in 2003. In the back of her mind she is still working on a story about worms.
