| Features: | Caroline loves meeting with students to talk about writing, reading and publishing. She’s a high-energy speaker, and does PowerPoint presentations as well as more casual book talks and writing workshops. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the New School in New York City, and is an active speaker at regional conferences and book festivals. Some popular presentations include: How Books Become Books (and Authors Become Authors!) A behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating a children's book as well as a discussion of how many authors get their start and achieve their dream of publishing. Foolproof Story Starters (a workshop) Students are led through several writing exercises designed to get the imaginative juices flowing. Using “story starter” building blocks, each participant will write their own short story. Workshop includes take-home ideas for overcoming writers block. No Vampires? No Problem! Writing realistic fiction that examines how kids deal with the everyday problems of friends and family is increasingly important in a market oversaturated with vampires and werewolves. Caroline discusses her approach to writing and explains why she makes kids and their families the crux of her stories. |
