Dionna is a children's book author and independent researcher who loves learning about lesser-known individuals shining in the margins of African American history. Kidlit kudos for her debut middle-grade novel, Mama's Chicken & Dumplings (Margaret Ferguson Books, 2024) include being selected as: a Junior Library Guld Gold Selection, a 2025 Bank Street Best Children's Book of the Year, 2025 Children’s Book Council Favorite, a BCALA Best of the Best in 2024, recommended read by VLA's 2025 Cardinal Cup award committee, and the California Department of Education.
