Veronica Bartles

Veronica Bartles author of TWELVE STEPS (YA), and THE PRINCESS AND THE FROGS (PB), loves to ask “What If?” She believes there are many sides to every story, and she’s determined to discover every single one! She believes every princess deserves a frog (because princes aren't pets!) and she understands that not every Cinderella wants a glass slipper. Veronica is a raging introvert who pretends to be an extrovert, and she’s an incurable optimist who loves gray, drizzly days. That’s when rainbows come out to play!

When not writing or reading, she likes to invent new cookie recipes and knit things from recycled plastic bags. She is the creator of the hashtag #KidLitConfections for sharing delicious desserts paired with equally delicious books. Veronica was the coordinator of the annual MD/DE/VA/DC Read Local Challenge from fall 2015 through spring 2023, and she is a member of Authors Against Book Bans. She loves connecting KidLit creators with teachers, librarians, and community organizations to help readers find themselves in their new favorite books.
