About the event

Notes from Guild event 11/20/25 (Deborah Kalb, notetaker)

The Guild hosted a panel discussion about how bookstores order children’s books and host events with children’s authors. Jason King, president of Turning the Page, moderated the discussion. The panelists were Rachel Wood, owner of Scrawl Books in Reston; Dee Harris, book buyer at Busboys and Poets; and Donna Wells, manager of the children and teens department at Politics & Prose.

Jason asked the panel to “demystify” the relationship between the bookstores and the authors, starting with what goes in to buying books.
